Printable invitations
I haven't done any research on the cost of getting invitations printed, though I'm sure the upper limits = ridiculous. I'm very taken with the idea of printable designs, though, like those of Printable Press or pretty pretty paper.
Dan's got a typewriter, might be cool to use that somewhere

Cannot stress how much money you can save with making your own invitations. You can lay the type with a typewriter, as you point out, or your own printer! You only miss out on relief, but that's usually prohibitively expensive in the first place. Katie and I went to Paper Source for inspiration- they've got lots of DIY kits that you can either use or copy. And can I just say... I have unlimited access to a laser cutter. Imagine the possibilities.
